I'm new here but post daily on customtacos.com. I have 97 Tacoma 2wd and I just purchased a 1982 short bed 2wd for $300!!! Here are some pics..
I been keeping track of your amazing work but I know that my work wont be as extensive as your build. I just want to bring it back to life. It was sitting on some guys ranch just waiting to be saved. I want to keep the exterior classic/original. The interior new school including the motor. At the moment it has a blown head gasket. I plan to find the best deal when the time is right. I am giving myself three months.. I just want an extreme static drop or maybe I'll decide on bagging it. Who knows I'll go with what looks good and right.. I know I'll be picking everyones brain on this project including yours. Never know maybe I'll make a trip to see your amazing work in person!!
Progress 1982 pt.2 Man, had a mini mod at my house with the customtacos.com guys and they help me with removing the bed and cleaned 20 years of dirt! The trucks frame is better than anticipated. Man cant wait to do some more...
Progress 1982 Pt.3 Alright just worked on the Yota for 6 hrs.... Cleaned/sanded the cab and the back half of the frame. Tomorrow it will be the front part of the frame. Just trying to my best on doing my own work and maintaining a strict/reasonable budget!
nice job man, looks like ur doing good! i Would go ahead and make a build thread in the '76 - '83 thread..
Nice work yankeetaco72. I wanted to know how you are cleaning out the frame. Are you using a cleaning agent or a sander. Did you also painted it after striping it? thanks
Cleaning frame So I realized that you in SD... Thats great because I can have you come by to watch my me and friends work on the 82. I'm learning as I go. My buddies from customtacos.com have been working with me teaching me the ropes on my truck. So I spent 6-7 hrs power washing the frame and then sanding the surface rust off the truck. I got lucky because the rust is not difficult to remove. The power washer did most of the work. So when I finished sanding I just got primer rattle cans from Home Depot. It took about 5-6 cans to do the frame and the truck. Really took 2 cans for the frame. I then rattle canned it with a flat black. If you want PM me sometime and maybe you can bring your project to my house, I have the room. I just learned this last week how to drop it. I now have a monoleaf with 4 inch blocks in the rear and loosened the torsion bars. I'm 2 ft off the ground all the way around. I'm running 195/70/14 steelies.
man thats such a night and day difference on the truck!!! im so impressed with the effort you've put in Manny..... we may be helping but you provide the vision and initiative to accomplish your goals.
Yea really your work on the truck are something special. I would like to catch up on your excursion of cleaning your truck. Ill bring the beer you tell the story.
