I purchased a 20r today for my 75, anything else I should know before i remove the old motor,. also if you have any tips as to how i should set up my camera so i can post pics of the build
use the original eng's motor mounts/brackets. and use the original eng's valve cover if it had the low pro one (hint: the low pro looks like this) your original intake and carb will be easier to use then the newer one if your still using the emissions control crap. now would be a good time to upgrade to electric ignition, check my write up for more info.
The current motor in the pu is stock original 75' 20r . the motor I purchased is out of a 84 will i see any conflicts when i do the conversion,. will most likely upgrade to electric ignition,. also like the case of sake in the background,.
if its from a 84 its a 22r, or its on its way to its 3rd home. still use the eng mount brackets off the 20r
3rd home, "YIKES" maybe i will call and double check the year however im sure its a 20r,. What do you know about stroker motors, when i was chasing down this motor we originally were looking for a 22r, I spoke with mechanic out eugene that told me i needed to put a 20r head on a 22r block with a little performance cam, and that i would have all the power i could handle,...
Last year for the 20R was 1980, the 22Rblock/20R head is what they call the hybrid, personally a waste of time in my opinion. A stroker is a whole different bird, do make some power, but are hard on the wallet.
dont trust what it says on the valve cover. look on the block below the #1 spark plug hole, there will be some stamped numbers on the block. hint: your looking for "20r" or "22r"
I,ve built a couple of the 22R strokers, fun project, for what its worth, on the Toyota strokers they use the stock length rod, the crankshaft rod throws are welded up, recut at a 1/4" offset and use a custom short piston to increase the cubes. ps. your Corolla looks great, nice job on the paint work.
yes... and no. pre 83-84ish non laser blocks...yes so you can mix and match just about every part on these motors after 84, you still could... but you would have to have head work done or custom timing chains made. but the 22r efi wont bolt up to the 20r without a crapload of competent machinery done to the intake.
wow thanks for the quick responses,. i will check the block when it arrives the nice thing about this situation is I only paid for a 20r,.. im sure thats whats coming
Thanks,it's not perfect,a few small runs that just won't polish out!. But looks a 100% better than it did!
