Whats up everyone, Im new to the forums, but knew this is the place to go for my mini. I have a 88 pickup from japan with the latched bed etc. Im turning it into a widebody drift truck. I got the body done except the fiberglass hood. and my rims are on the way. Anyways I currently have the torsions cranked and 3in blocks in the back, but I definitely need it lower....but I want to do it the right way so I want to find someone who can make a 3 link that can mount up coilovers, and some kind of shock mounts up front. Im trying to price things.being a full time student doesnt help. Id also need someone who could weld up my differential for a good price. If you can help me with any of this, I can drop off my truck local in CA. Id really appreciate the help. Thanks!
what kind of budget are you working with? From what you have mentioned, I can already see around $1000 bucks in parts alone. Fab work is fairly expensive when you dive into it..... At least any decent work that will hold up to the abuse. You can convert your front end to coilovers witch will be better suited for the load and performance demand... Keep in mind that when it comes to this kind of sport, you get what you pay for. As for good fabricators, pm beef taco. He is a good guy and his work is some of the best quality ive ever seen.
ya I figured the price would be around there. Ive been txting him a little about the rear setup and he has a pretty good deal going. Im coming from a prerunner background, i had 2 of them i did majority of the work and just sold them but fab work does get pretty expensive when you cant do it on your own... but it got me to know where to find good deals on the material. so for the most part I can supply the tubing and fab parts required, Im just not the best welder so I could use the help there. For right now Im just trying to get a few different options so I could weigh out the differences and prices etc.
Well, the thing about welding.... You dont get better without practice. You gotta get in a groove and take it from there. Ever notice how good welders are also handy with a grinder.....? Anyhow, you have a good start by contacting brian.
Ive had some practice, I used to build custom bikes, but id grid the sloppy welds down. They still held with some flex but not worth the risk on a truck. but thanks for all the advice. heres a pic of the project I got going so far.. the new offset wheels will fill out the fenders once they come in the mail.
