Hi guys i need some help locating a shifter for my truck. My truck is an 89 2wd that had a 4 speed manual but i swapped it out for a 5 speed manual. It has a 2 piece shift lever. I would like to know where i can find either a new or used shift lever. I also wouldn't be opposed to finding some aftermarket ones. Thanks for any help.

You mean the whole rod that goes down into the trans right. You should be able to use the one from your old 4 speed just change the 4 bolt mounting plate to the 5 speeds 6 bolt

There are three bolts on one side and two on the other plus a top peice that has four bolts. Im not sure of the model of transmission either. Im not sure how to make the old shifter work for the new set up

Those are pics from the 5 speed? You should be able to push down and turn the cap(@45%)to release the shift rod from the mounting plate.

Does the drive shaft line up the way you have it sitting there?

The bottom two are of the five speed and the drive shaft is not in yet plus the transmission is being held up by a floor jack. I will also go try and take the shift rod off of the 4 speed plate and put it on the 5 speed

Some 4 speeds require a different mounting plate for the cross member on the bottom. You should try testing it with the shaft up and make sure it's not short. As for that trans it must be of a pre 89 model because as far as I know the 89-95 5 speeds have a 6 bolt mounting plate for the shifter. So I'm not familiar with that one you have.[IMG]like this.

Thanks for the info on how to get the shift rod out. We were able to get the shift rod out of the old mounting plate but it does not fit into the new mounting plate. Any suggestions on locating the right shifter for this transmission.

Here are some pics of the shifter mounting plates. The one with 4 bolt holes is the old one and the one with the 5 bolt holes is the one that we need to work.
