So I have had this slow drop in tank pressure for some time. Test all the fittings ,manifolds & would never find it,so decided to test for blow back though the compressors. ound a bad check valve, ordered 3 more from McMaster-Carr & fuck all 3 are bad!! Told must be a bad lot,new ones on the way. At the same time I decided it was time to replace the compressors, even though still working ,have to be worn with 10 years of use! Ordered a 485 duel pack,Viairs newest compressors. Hope to have all on before the next two shows! Phot's to come.
Aside from the pressure drop, was there any other signs of the bad check valve on the comps? I have 2 480s we had in our Venza and i constantly hear a low hiss and it would be relieved when i would move the line on the comp.
No, I use a blue liquid to check for leaks,it clings to what you spay it on. I don't use the leader hose with check valve from Viair, they fail often, I use check valves from McMaster-Carr & I use them it many places not use between the compressors & tanks. Just have air in your tank & remove the compressor air filter ,put a fitting with a small length of hose ito a glass of water ,you will see bubbles if the check valve as failed. You can get replacement leader hose with the check valve, if the check valve is removable that is available also.
So I got my old compressors polished out & the fins repainted, & received the new ones. Make two new mounting plates which I used the existing mounts which are 5 mm nuts weld to the notch cover , I machined the new plate so that it anchors to the the notch cover using these ,than the compressors sit rearward so I didn't have to remake the stainless hard lines. Test fit all & all is good. Will paint the plates & polish out the compressors today.
Thats a very intricate looking setup there. Looks like alot of time went into bending all those hardlines.
I have the hard lines in the bed & push to connect under. Can lift the truck ,drain the tanks of air & disconnect the top from the bottom & lift the bed with all in it.
