So here is how she sits now: That is how it was when I bought it from my guy and thanks to yankeetaco I just got this: Going to try and do the rusted VW look and see how it goes. I know there is a lot of hate on that look but I have never seen a yota truck with one before so I might just be able to pull it off. More pics to come of the process of rusting the hood when I get to it. Hopefully tomorrow. I really didnt want to mess up the OEM hood I have on with the matching paint so I am stoked to have gotten this one.
looks good. what is the rusted vw look? is it the sanding through the sharp edges kind of thing, to give it a weathered look?
I think I am going to strip the paint and just throw some salt and vinegar and water on it and let the sun and weather do there magic.
oh yeah, i've seen a car like that once before. as a fabricator it makes me cringe a bit, but looks cool none the less lol
Yeah I just have to make sure and seal it after so the rust doesn't creep to my fenders or other parts of my truck. haha.
Glad I could help! Man your truck looks amazing in person! I really want a solid rear and it looks really sic on your truck. Man i was really impress with your interior of your truck. I cant wait to lower your truck more when we can do a mod day at my new place with more room!
Put in some work on the hood today. Most of the paint came off after the first application of stripper. So I picked of some of this stuff at the local home depot: applied coat 1: coat 2: coat 3: After that I took a fair amount of time sanding and smoothing out the hood. I left a little paint here and there so it won't look like every other rusted hood out there. So I needed to take a little break: Then I went to the local CVS and Ralphs and picked up my rust helping hands: I am doing equal parts alcohol, vinegar, and salt and then lathering up the hood and it is currently sitting in my backyard and I will see how my results turn out tomorrow! thanks for following!
that truck looks amazing man everyones probably gonna give you a lot of **** for "jumping on the bandwagon" but i think the hood will look good on it, and ive yet to see one on a truck. plus your keeping your original hood so you can always throw it back on. good luck with the truck, cant wait to see how it turns out!
So Got everything finished up today. After I gave her a good wash I took off the old hood. To get the hood to rust i bought pool chlorine and it worked like a charm. Her it is after Clearcoating. Then I mounted the hood and this is the finished product. Let me know what you think! Also do not wear new pants and shoes while working with chlorine!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Man dont make us wait lets see the pics now! man slow down I m trying to catch up! I got some good news from the wifey today. The tax return is larger than I thought so as long as I keep it at a budget build I can probably complete my 82 in a couple of months!
