Dui is a little tidier set-up. Or 123 ignition if you got the time and money. That setup is the shit.

I have a MSD streetfire box, install was easy. Kinda bulky box but it's cool

Edit: looks like I jumped the gun on this with the PerTronix ignition and coil. Pretty sure I need an ignitor 3 to get a rev limiter. May return and go MSD or see if I can get the ignitor 3 for a 4 cylinder.

edit: ok bought the PerTronix controller as well so I think I’m good to make my brap braps.

That pertronix piece will work on a point distributor, if you have the newer one with the magnetic pickup just cancel it or be ready to return it

Hmmm I probably should have spent more than 5mins researching but I ended up going with:

    PerTronix 40511 Coil
    PerTronix 1645 Ignitor
    PerTronix 600 digital rev limiter

    Did I fuck up?

Pop off your cap and see what you have. I don't know when the change happened but you might still have points. If you have a ballast on the coil that will also tell you.

Looks like I fucked up yeah? So I need to either return the ignitor and purchase a magnetic trigger distributor from PerTronix or get an old points distributor from the yard?

I think they only make stuff for a points distributer. Kind of there whole deal is getting rid of the points using your old gear. So yeah return or get a points distributer. Personally if I could find a disy for under 100 i would do that. Then you can send your other one in for the 123 ignition upgrade.

Was it your truck that got stolen recently? The 123 has pin protected ignition. Meaning unless they held you up and forced you to unlock it they would have to bring there own ignition system. Has your rev limiter and full timing control.

Yeah mine got stolen. That sounds like a nice extra layer of protection. I guess the other option is to return everything but the coil and buy an MSD box correct? It looks like that will work with an electronic distributor.

You can definitely do that. I'm going to share this phase with you. "Buy once cry once." You have a working system right now and no major reason to upgrade right? You major reason for upgrading is just to get a new feature right? Why get one with all the features? Yeah it's expensive and custom so it's not a now thing. But you don't really need a solution now.

I'm wanting to buy my 3rd ignition system now. The only one that was the valuable solution for me was the pertonix because it got me going, simple setup, and in the truck as a backup system. I have the dui with the rev limiter module in the cap and it's cool but I should of waited till I found the 123 to pull the trigger on anything. The dui will be a good backup system. Lol

I don't want to tell you how to spend your money but I promise you buying anything that dosnt have everything will have you wishing you would.

no I feel you. I shot an email to PerTronix, hopefully I can cancel the order before it ships. Looks like the 123 setup is $700? That’s a lot to go brap brap but I really want to go brap brap and the extra layer of security would mean I can stop sleeping by the door with a shotgun… I’ll mull it over and report back.

For what you're getting out of it you would have to spend about that to get a msd box with the full timing control. But it would still be missing things the 123 has.

What stupid noises are you trying to achieve? Poppy noises thur the exhaust? The MSD box reduced all the exhaust crackle
