does any body like vw mk2 vw gti (1985-1992) they have 1.8 liter 8 valve- 2.0 liter 16 valve dohc motors. has any body owned or driven one??? I had a 1985 black vw gti hatchback with a 1.8 liter and a close-ratio 5-spd in it. it sorted reminded me of my 1977 Datsun 620 2wd pickup with a l20b motor and 5-spd transmission. it was geared so low it reminded me of it. the 620 handled better then the gti though. plus both have lower dash trays on them too!!!

 

not sure on the GTI.... wife has a 1991 jetta with the 1.8. She stopped driving it a few years ago cause she was scared it was going to break down on her........ but she doesnt want to let me sell it........ gets great gas mileage though!!! My opinion on most newer VW (and this is coming from a VW guy as well as a Toyota guy) stay away from them. They are prone to breaking and having reliability issues. Tried a 2001 beetle TDI, 2 injector pumps later and worsening MPG (equal to gas instead of diesel mpg just wouldnt work for me) I got rid of it. many others I know have had the infamous coil pack issues, another friend had a 2010 TDI had the injector pump explode.......

Gimme an old air cooled VW any day!

Buddy had a golf r32 clean parked his daily ford escort next to one night went inside passed out Ford caught fire and burned both to the ground and almost caught his neighbors tree on fire .
I had a 2000 a4 Audi on staggered 19 inch rims got totaled buy uninsured motorist ...had one car payment left . Then bought a 2001 Audi a6 biturbo 2.7t Sport Beast of a car had coil pack failure and left side turbo failure . I love German cars but things get expensive quick ..like rcksqrl said il take a 0ld vw preferably a 60s bug root beer brown with a hot 2.0 liter in it

 

yeah!!! I paid $1,000 dollars for it!!! it was my best friend 's first car. I liked it, but it did have it's electrical issues. it would bog down and cut out. I had two fuel pumps done a internal and external pump too. it turned out it was a faulty ignition. the mk2 vw gti it 's a awesome car it just cost too much to maintain. I love my Datsun 620!!! it was a good truck just geared real low. my favorite vehicles have been my 92 Honda accord ex 4-dr white with blue interior and a 5-spd. it was lowered on eibach pro-kit springs and a 2 1/4 magnaflow exhaust. then my 93 Toyota 2wd non sr-5 ps,pb, ac white with gray interior and a downey air-intake and a djm 3/4 drop and a 2 1/4 flowmaster 40 series exhaust. I owned the Toyota for 7 years and the accord for 5 years. the Toyota I miss the most though!!!
