So today I took it to the muffler shop to get the LCE header that I bought from this guy off craigslist. He owns a toyota pickup too and said that it came off a truck similar to mine. So anyways, the guy who was going to do my exhaust said that it doesn't fit. Said that the header has no clearance because the torsion bars are in the way. Didn't want to believe him, but he was right. I tried to install it in my house right after I came from the muffler shop, and yea...no clearance, the tail of the header is in the same position where the torsion bar was suppose to be. Need help guys! Is it cause the header I got is only for 4x4 toyota pickups, cause I think those do not have any torsion bars. And anyone can send me a link for any headers that would fit on a 2wd truck that has torsion bars? (pacesetters, dog thorely, obx, lce) whatever it is. Just want a header that will fit and will give performance.

LC's headers are year & model specific. 4x4 are different.than for the 2wd!
Call them & see what they say you can do!!

yes the 4x4 and 2wd are different - i think only in the tube design. this different tube design is for torque application. the overall length should be the same. as for the torsion bars - there may have to be some modification to the flange of the header. i know many people on here that have bought the LCE header have said they had to modify the flange (shave a little off to clear the bars) i just wrapped my bar with a little header wrap and it doesnt make noise when it hits.

then again, ur engine and trans mounts do play a role in the fitment. --if the mounts are old and worn, it will sag some, and that little extra clearance needed for proper header fitment is no longer there.

and i do know of a few guys personally that have the OBX header, no fitment issues and performs just as good. -if u like that shiny chrome look on a header. (not my style personally)

    correct me if im wrong.

I have a set of LCE headers and they fit exactly in place of the stock manifold and piping to the cat. I think the 4x4 headers are routed a little differently for clearence, also road, street model headers are different length for torque curve. Check their website it explains it all.

That's the default of not doing research - buying something that don't fit. No pun intended because I believe most of us have been there a time or twice... Check out LC's YouTube video on the difference between 2WD vs. 4WD.

It really vaulters on the length from top to bottom when installing LC Headers. Only difference in tube size or headers for street performance/mid-range rpms and race application or hi rpms.

I don't have LC's, they're junk; my opinion. Doug Thorleys is where it's at for top-end performance, especially if you're building bottom end torque.

    Good luck

I believe the issue with the t-bars is that 4wd are on top and 2wd are on bottom, hence the clearance issue.

try calling up Stan's headers in WA, they are another company that makes the Tri-Y header, but I'm pretty sure it's shorter than the Dough Thorley and LCE, so it may work. my new 75 Hilux has a Hedman hedder and I think they make them for 2wd only.

A header made for a 85 and earlier 4x4 will be very close to the torsion bar on a 2x4 from 79-95 and depending on manufacturer may not go back far enough before dropping the primaries down to the collector so the sway bar won't clear either.

A header designed for a 86-95 4x4 will clear the torsion bar but again the sway bar won't clear due to the drop of the primary tubes.

I've had about a dozen different brands of header made for all the major era of trucks so I've tried most possible combinations to figure this out.
