I was wondering if anybody could tell me if a 12" tall intercooler will fit in a 4x4 bumper

Noooo. Sorry. Even with the 4wd bumper, the frame is an inch or less behind the chrome. I'm currently in the same boat, trying to figure out how to run an intercooler while being bagged. A side mount could work, but most like will have to run a water to air setup.

What about a top mount intercooler? They get the heat rise from the engine, but can have a scoop above them. I have a few pics of a 60s mustang with twin turbos and a top mount. The other option would be to modify the bumper to sit out a bit further, or have an intercooler behind the grille in front of the radiator. There have been a few guys to fit them in there, but it still looks pretty tight fitting.

Looks like its actually using twin superchargers, and im not even 100% sure its a mustang. no idea where the fender scoops go either. But, you get the idea i think

Water to air should be really reliable. It's just a pump and a small oil cooler sized radiator that would fit between the condenser and radiator.

Probably the way I'll end up going.

The 2.3 (?) liter turbo 4 cylinder that came in 1980's thunderbird had a small and funky looking intercooler that sat to the side of the engine towards the top. Not sure if it was water or air. I'll try and find pics. Maybe its something that could be adapted to work on these engines.

I feel like you could have an intercooler custom made for less than that!

If you are gonna run boost, you should show it off. I have some old school volvo turbo emblems. Check these out

    my intercooler dimensions are 27"L x 5"H x 2.75" W

    the core is 21 inches x 5 x 2.75

this is from when i 1st mocked up mine.. fitment wise it has like 5mm between the frame and the back of the cooler and it actually touches the valance flush so i sanded the plastic slightly to mm clearances haha

This is how mine is. We are making some drop down and out brackets to make it fit around the IC pipping and sit further forward some. Going to be modifying the bumper itself but should be relatively stock looking when completed.
