    Hey guys and gals,

I've been thinking of bagging a 67 stout and wanted to see if any of you guys have done it yet or could direct me to where I can find more info about it.

Also wanted to get anyone's opinion as to a suggested shop around North County San Diego (I'm from Oceanside). Thank you all in advance for all your help.

    Jay

From what I have gather, the stout has crap suspension. Most guys opt to put an 84+ frame under the stouts. Personally, I would try to make a 73-78 front clip work. The entire front crossmember with control arm mounts, steering box and spring cups all comes off with about 10 bolts. Should tuck to the bottom of a stout frame nicely. The benefits of that vs the 84+ would be a lower A arm not I arm, therefore no strut rod. They also have a much beefier crossmember, and the center link is behind it being protected while low. Its something to consider vs the route most take to build them.

It can be done, but not as easy as a 84+ front assembly.
I still had a crack at it because it was more cost effective for me to use the existing Stout spare chassis I had.

I managed to get mine to lay flat rails with slightly larger tyres too:
    185/70 R14:

    45mm Z notch
20mm (at the front) sectioned lower control arms
Pie Cut and flipped from left to right upper control arms
    Front relocated shock mounts.

The whole front end gets about 11-12 inches of travel. With very small amount of toe/out movement. Since the center link was lifted slightly higher than stock

I managed to fit power steering from a cressida with a custom made center link and used a toyota tapered reamer for the tapered holes.

Also disc brake conversion from a 78-83 Hilux. You use the lower balljoints from a 78-83 Hilux and use the Stout steering pitman arms but have to drill the holes out to 12mm so they bolt up to the 78-83 Spindles.

Here's a video of it all functioning

    Cheers
