Well folks, here's one that's not as truck related as the rest of the site. I am thinking about moving down to Cali in the spring if not sooner. My folks inherited 2 acres outside California city, which is about 80 miles east of Bakersfield. It's just a dirt lot in the desert. But a trailer there would be vastly better than a trailer in Washington rain season for a 3rd winter. So peeps, fill me in on that part of the state. What's cool to do, where's the good scrap yards, any body live out that way, ect ect. I know lots of you guys are between San Diego and Sacramento. And it sure would be cool to have some homies down that way. I work construction and in this state, that's very seasonal. I've spent my whole life here and never much liked it. I loved living in Vegas and being in the southwest. So guys, ask whatever ya want and give me some stuff to make me even more excited to go. And if anybody is down to start up a mini truck shop with a bar, I'm a certified welded, mechanic and bartender
Certified welder, eh? If you go on Craigslist for that area, there seems to be a lot of demand for welders in Bakersfield. Although it might be a far commute at 80miles....
good luck... there isnt **** in califonia city. its going to be hot, dry, windy, and not a whole lot to do and probably not many jobs close by.
I'm not too worried if I have to commute an hour or more, as stretched out as the greater Seattle area is, that's pretty typical for me. And bills wouldn't be much more than food and gas for the truck and generator. Property an trailer are already paid for. What are your guys biggest complaints about the state? I already plan to sell my 78 and buy my cousins 74, so emissions won't be an issue. I'm still really looking forward to all this. Dry hot and boring is fine by me. I'm used to wet, cold, wet, wet and wet. Lol.
As far as gun laws compared to here, its about the same. Biggest change will be no large cap magazines, but all my stuff is old designs and hold 8 or less anyways haha. How's sales tax, liquor tax, stuff like that?
Lancaster is close by, and it seems to be the biggest city around. It's also right near the Air Force base, I thought a few guys here were stationed in Cali. Nam, where you at? Lol
Yeah buddy. It's been raining for weeks up here. Can't hardly drive when it's wet. You'd have to show me some good car shows for the summer season.
Up here in Sacramento area. Job wise, you might find it easier to score one further south you go as it seems. I honestly don't know.
Claif. City is a hub for off road events, was a planed city by Howard Hues to bring in the Concord! But Calif EPA shut that down so no city, just a main paved road ,lights & a hotel . It's been a long while sense I was down there for a motorcycle two day qualifier! So the area may have built up some? The highway over the pass & though that area is the main way to Nevada & Arizona. The central valley has a lot of shows & too the south the same! Danger Zone is a little north of Bakersfield, that's is a big show,& next year will be their 10th year!! Bakersfield is growing more & more so work should be good. Lots of gang problems though out the valley,so which yourself,be aware of your surroundings @ all times!! Calif. laws are strict & the taxes are high ,as is gas prices! Calif weather is way better then the wet Northwest, you will miss all the tress & green!!!
I've seen trees for 25 years. I wanna look at bushes and dirt now. Thanks for the info truck action. I will be out in the desert, so not too worried about gangs and what not.
Thats interesting. I'm thinking of moving to Washington (Seattle area or elsewhere) for the exact reasons you want to leave. I like the rain, overcast ect. And I want a garden that isn't constantly dying from wilting sun. I've lived in Colorado all my life and have hated it since around Jr. high. Maybe I can tap your knowledge about places to look in the area? Looking for a plot of land, maybe 40 acres, close enough to a town that I can still get water, sewer, electricity, ect. Any ideas of good places to look? I'm planning a trip out there. Maybe this winter and again in the summer to get a feel for the place.
Desert-- you still have to go into cities to earn a living!! And in the desert you will need to be always looking for some bad ass snakes that will kill you fast!! Along with other critters!!
Oh I'm looking forward to some snake hunting. Get me a new pair of boots made up. I always wanted some **** kickers covered in **** I shot
