first time using a forum but had to sign up after reading these and getting great ideas for my yota. but I need help with my efi and vac lines. I need to replace the head gasket i'm guessing since on compression test found water coming out of #3. but prior to that it was running bad and from what I've been reading I think I need to go back over my vacum lines routing and figure out what these parts are and where to find replacements or how to test them to see if working properly. Ahhhh, having troubles loading my images from my phone, try to load from my computer, dwn for a bit.
Have you tore it apart yet?I don't think you will have to replace any of your vacuum lines until you do your head shave and new head gasket. You would want to put everything back on where it belongs and test from there.Unless of coarse there are obvious problems in the system. If you haven't already tore it down take a bunch of pics so you know where all the lines go or if a buddy has a 22re you can just use that as a referance when it's time to put it back together.Just be careful with all the little things like the two brass o-rings on the main fuel line and all that kind of sh!t.I've done this many times so if you need help just hit me up.I usually have my 22re truck with me I can go out and look at it if needed.Shoots brotha good luck.
no haven't started anything on tear down, this part on the radiator goes to the side of the intake rail and use to have a plastic screw with a large spring under it. but i don't know the name of it and aut zone doesn't seem to carry the part. the other is i think the vsv one has a red electric plug and the other has a blue, but both have vac lines to them, then also the 3 port thing on the back side of the motor but on the intake rail same side as first part mentioned. this motors been built several times, but the vacuum lines have never been properly routed and i'm not sure if everything is hooked up or even working. but i was hoping to get all this straight before i take the intake off, that way it will be put back complete the right way and not have to figure it out with nothing hooked up. can i take the upper and lower intake off the side of the head without separating the two or best to take each apart? will keep progress pics going
Ok we'll start with the plug with the three nipples.i'll use your last pic as a reference.put the cap on the top nipple facing the front of the truck and the inner top nipple needs a hose from there to the vacuum line rail that is running along side the valve cover on the left side.count the third one from the back and run the hose to that.as for the nipple on the bottom it runs to the blue plug.
What year is your truck?Mines a 92 and its a little different then yours but we'll figure it out.Anyways for the red plug I cant really see it in your pics but it should have two vacuum lines running off it.if you count #5 and 6 back(from the front this time)on the rail they go there.#5 on the outer nipple facing the front an#6 on the inner.
The screw with the spring you aren't going to find it at a parts store. You need to check a junk yard or maybe ebay
ok, so I haven't started any on it, I have an 88'. I got these schematics/drawings from another post.they are closer to my truck. so the 3 nipple thing on this drawing doesn't really show where the hoses go or what the part is. but i'll run the one to the blue plug and cap off the other port, but I don't have hard lines to connect the last one too. on the other side of the blue plug does it go to this circle thing right underneath the silver hard pipe that connects with the two bolts into the back of the intake. the red plug I think I have that correct. have to post images on next post. can't load them from my phone so to the computer.
Take the best pics you can so I can see what you mean.Lets talk about one thing at a time so no confusion.
I can save you a whole lot of trouble. Take all that BS off. Cap off the ports on the throttle body, cap 2 of the 3 ports on the vacuum tee at the back of the intake, and run the vacuum line from the pressure regulator to the 3rd port on the vacuum tee. Remove EGR and make blockoff plates. Works fine. See this?
Ok, so I'm back finally. Thank you (malessohomegrown), I found these two images that best route my lines for me. Xs5875, I would like to keep my motor as stock as possible. Before I removed the head, I read that I should set the crank to TDC on exhaust, but can't be to positive, but it appeared to me that everytime I landed on TDC(exhaust valve adjust was loose), the cam teardrop would be halfway on the rockerarm contact point to cam instead of at the point. So I thought timing might be off, took head off, didn't find any definitive marks, like a clear tear in head gasket, but timing chain guides have broke. just the driver side one. but I decided to take off the timing chain cover too. Some wear marks inside of the cover, but I will probably fill it in with JB weld. But this way hopefully the timing will go back correctly. Now I'm trying to research which is a better method for my head, one machine shop does a pressure test, or go to another to have it magna-flux. Not sure how they compare to each other or which is best for toyota. Throw me your thoughts. Is there any difference in the 22-r or the 22-re valve cover? my valve cover is for a carb, but wanted to make sure they weren't different and hitting anything. But again thank you again for helping me solve my original question and understanding my vac lines so I hope these images help another.
procrastinator Ok, so its been almost a year, but aside from the delays (several moves, several job changes) I have my motor almost completely back together. I feel pretty confident about the timing. I tried to, or I should say bought the red and blue vsv electrical connector off ebay, but I found out that the '87 connector is different from the '88 connector. So unfortunately I won't be able to change those out yet at the moment. The toyota dealer here said the red connector is discontinued and the blue one is about 86 dollars. But I have a few final questions for any who would like to help. The two hoses next to the distributor, I need to land those two hoses, I believe the one on the left with the hose strap/clamp goes up to the empty left spot on the intake picture, but I am not sure where the one on the right goes. On the intake picture I have two spots missing, the one on the left I think is for the distributor, but the right one I am not sure of. I know I don't have the A/C idle control hooked up, but I am hoping it will be ok, or should I at least put caps on all the port holes. And last is the vacuum line underneath the throttle. It appears to be a hose with something on the end but not terminating anywhere. What do I need to put here? After these are tied up and complete, I will just have my fan to attach to the water pump, the belts, then the radiator back. Then the scary moment,(well for me at least) trying its first start.
