I 'm looking at buy'n a 86 with the 22r and its got a bad oil leak it looks like its comming from the top side of the water pump but I'm wondering if oil runs through that part of the pump if not I would start to belive its comming from the oil pump its self how hard is it to replace gaskets on ether one of these also being that I looked at the truck when it was starting to get dark it could be just a valve cover pukin oil eather way I'm going to go buy this thing and fix it
best way i found to find an oil leak is pressure wash the heck out of the motor........ if you have oil leaks they will definately show after you wash it. its pretty rare for these things to leak from the oil pumps. they are pretty well sealed. the tricky thing about these motors is they leak from the top and end up in weird places so they throw you off from where they are really leaking from. look from the valve cover down and trace the first sighn of oil..
well, went to go buy that one and it turned out to have a major title problem so I started to look some more and I came across this on the portland craigslist 1991 Toyota Pickup (needs brake work, fine otherwise) - $600 (Inner SE Portland (Hawthorne)) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: 2009-12-31, 5:26PM PST Reply to: [email protected] [Errors when replying to ads?] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Price negotiable (looking for best offer). Good car for mechanic w/ time to fix, or even for lots of parts for resale, reuse. The specs: - White 1991 Toyota Pickup, short-bed, 2WD, stick shift, solid engine and drive train, good all-weather tires. - Just under 200K miles (mostly highway miles, has had regular preventive maintenance), has nice canopy, storage / ski racks (included), single CD player, runs well. - Blue book value is ~$1600 - $1900. The problems (full transparency): 1) The seal on the master cylinder of brakes needs replacing (it leaks). 2) Front brakes only - need 2 new pads + 2 new calipers. Rt. front rotor also needs replacing. Cannot be safely driven until brakes are repaired. 3) There is also a minor problem with the u-joints from the drive line (they have a lot of free play now, and may need replacing in the not-too-distant future. I do not have other photos on hand right now, but you can see 2 angles of the truck in these photos (yes, by the way, it's a GREAT truck for landscaping projects and such). Please excuse the photos for not being better, neither was intended as a photo of the truck... wish I was about 230miles closer
