The Shifter from a 88 Carpeted floor console ? Is the rubber boot screwed on or does it have a lip ? Is carpet tucked in or screwed down ? I am wanting to swap out to a short shifter but I don't wanna tear up my rubber boots or anything else.

The handle on top of the shiftier unscrews, then once you removed the carpet there will be 6 or 8 large Philips screws holding the boot to the cab floor. Just be careful when removing that because there are plastic clips that the screws go into. Should be real easy to remove everything.
