I know people say that backfiring isn’t good for an engine but I’m curious on how you can get a backfire or a loud pop?

Get your needle to stick or give it a real rich mixture lmao. Rev limiters can give you pops because they cut the spark dumping fuel down the exhaust.

If you have the stock carb/emission controls, disconnect the deceleration fuel cutoff solenoid on the carb...

I used to key bomb my KP60 starlet in the Lyttleton tunnel in NZ, so loud it would stop traffic, soo much fun! Also great fun in parking buildings. god i miss that car!

Your engine should snap crackle pop on deceleration. How much exhaust does it have.

Not really. Any afterfire is unspent fuel that can wash the cylinder wall. Ends up in you oil. Gas is not a good lubricant.

My truck is a 1986 pickup with the 22R. When I bought it, it had sat for 5 years. After I fixed it up, I cranked it to find that the exhaust has broken off right at the muffler, though not completely. It pops as soon as I break ~2500 RPM.
