welll my new truck seams like the motor is smoking... it only does it sometimes though...it does blow a little bit of smoke out of the valve cover if you pull out the oil cap or a vaccum line or something. could that mean valve seals ? it still smokes when the trucks off and does it even when the truck was cold and was on for less than a minute... could it be piston rings ?!? the motor has all new gaskets, timing, water and oil pump. also a little bit of smoke comes from the driver side of the block like its coming from the exhaust ? this is to the people with hands on exp with this... do you think its harder to tear apart an efi motor or carbed ??? is it easier to work on efi or carb ??? Im debating if I wanna throw a weber and call it a day ??
Not sure about the smoking part.... I'd check for any trouble codes and if the timing is correct first. Compression, fuel pressure, coolant leak down tests there after. Start off with the simple stuff before deciding to throw in a weber. The efi system is simple and pretty efficient if everything is running properly...
the motors are the same, manifold, intake/carb, and vacuum lines are the difference. When you did the re-gasketing, did you do the valve stem seals? they could be leaking causing some oil burning. a small amount of smoke/condensation from the oil cap isn't abnormal, especially on an old motor. usually it's worn rings but could also be water vapor that evaporated out of the oil/crankcase and is condensing as it leaves the valve cover. smoke coming out by the exhaust probably is exhaust. again, condensation which is normal. just the leaks aren't normal. do you hear any exhaust leak?
