So I live in the great state of Utah that Freakin requires emissions! Yay! Not really So my question to you all is..... Have any of you that have to do emissions, run a header? If so how did you make it work? Cuz from my thinking a header doesn't have a spot for the egr. Will I just have to drill a hole in one a and weld an adapter to it?
Pacesetter headers have egr hook ups to the best of my knowledge.. If you have a 22r in your truck I have a header for reference if you have questions..
I just put a Doug Thorley Tri-Y header on my 94.. It has provisions for the EGR tube to bolt onto the header flange.
I bought a obx off of eBay, had to dent two of the header tubes for the egr tube to fit, and enlarge the holes for the center of the egr plates to fit. $200 for the obx, $400 for the better, and no mods to the tubes
Here in Cali, things are tough! You can fail smog just on visual . I run LC header & have the Carb tag on the firewall, also have their stage 1 Pro Street engine ,passes smog no problems! My smog told me that this next year I will have to change the cat, also from LC, must have correct numbers on it. I'll have to get the correct one in the same length & weld the same flanges on it so can install for smog than change back!
I'd move if they started emissions testing around here. Especially if they did visual tests those are stupid. The only thing that matters is what comes out of the tailpipe not whats under the hood.
Yeah, they don't see how counterproductive visual testing is. If I could modify my car and do it so it passes the sniffer, I would try to do so. There is a guy on a classic Celica forum who is trying to install all the smog equipment on his 18RG; I don't really understand why since he will just fail the visual. As it is, it just means I would swap parts/motors every two years or go find someone who will just pass it. Also, for Suprafreak13 and Silverblazer 50, if you guys are talking about that tube that runs across the top of the header tubes, that is the air injection manifold. The egr ports are the little tubes under the (IIRC) #2 and #3 tubes.
My $400 header had similar problems, the stud on the #4 header pipe was so misplaced I had to almost double the size of the hole in the Air Injection plenum, then also had to enlarge the center bolt holes of the plenum so the supplied bolts would thread into the manifold flange. I was a little disappointed in the fitment. Yea I was curious and unsure which one was which.. Is the EGR plumbing the pipe that's basically part of the rear of the head in an "S" shape? Do the ports travel through the head? Those ports under #2 and #3 tubes just go right into the exhaust flow correct? My DT header had areas relieved so gasses coming from those ports would enter the exhaust flow, although not as free flowing as the OEM header.
