On my FBSS 87' I currently run a 7 gallon black air tank, has 2 3/8" on the sides, 1 1/4" on the bottom and 4 1/2" ports on one side, the norm Ive seen is 8 ports - 2 for compressors - 4 for fill/dump valve combos - 1 top or side for an additional air source or gauge/ pressure switch - and 1 for the pet**** drain, etc. Like I said seems to be the norm. for alote of people with many different combinations. As for the size, sometimes the manufacturer limits or " recommends ( max ) size " for example my DC5000 3/4 h.p.'s are recommended for a max tank of 3 gallons per compressor { I run 1 7 gallon } @ recommended 140psi max ( so as to not burn up the pumps ) { I run 150 psi } Many people will debate this but, keep in mind " sometimes " the manufacturer does have more experience in their products { enter consideration for warranties and feasability at this time }. Some people like black steel tanks for price, some prefer aluminum for " non-rust issues ", some like to go all out with chrome aluminum, that choice lies in you and your budget - FYI, Im changing to a 8 gallon aluminum with complete water trpa filtration in the spring to steer away from the whole rusty bleeder valve that I used to drain every other day . . .

the moisture in the air is what you have to worry about. as you compress the air it gets hot, then as it travels to the tank it cools. condensation will form in the tank, i recommend a water/oil trap. even with aluminum you should use one to keep the moisture out of your valves.

I run a 7 gal. with 2 380. For playing I would recommend 2 tanks. I prefer stainless as no rust problem! I run 2 water filters, one on each inlet!
Do not like steel tanks as will add contaminates to the system!
As for the number of ports, you can use Tees to get more connections,& I had a drain added to my stainless tank,as you still will have some water over time!

I would suggest two 5-gallon or 7-gallon tanks...that way you can hide them under the bed if you want them to be out of sight! Most of my buddies are running two tank cause they love to play with their ****.

how much does nitrogen run or co2 ? I can get a pretty sweet deal on some co2 tanks...

I understand the moisture problem still exists in all types of tanks so I will be running a water/oil trap or 2 or however many I need.. I just dont want a chrome tank

when i used to run Co2 as a weld gas it cost about $20 for a 5'ish bottle. now i use 75/25 mix, it costs about $70 for the same size. not sure on the nitrogen. also, Co2 freezes if released too quickly from its liquid to gas state. a nitrogen tank is pressurized gas and won't have that problem.

Do like Truck Action said/recommended and run one on each inlet, thats the start or the source of water/contaminants. . .

You can never put a price on fun. . . :D

If you already have a nitrogen tank you'll spend about 30 bucks on refill and if you need a tank too your probably looking at about 90 bucks for 5'ish tank as apposed to the 60 to 70 bucks for co2. My buddy has also ran scuba tanks in his hardbody... just throwing the idea out there.:)
