Generations ?

    So I saw this posted the other day :

    No generation goes by body style.

    69-72 First gen
    72.5-78 second gen
    79-83 third
    84-88 fourth
    89-94 fifth
    And so on.

    4x4 guys mostly refer to the 79-83(third gen) as a first gen

    I didn't want to hijacked the thread or nothing, but if I may show some of my ignorance , What determines the Generations ?? :shrug:

    89 auto cross beater
    4x4 guys (myself included) call 79-83 first generation because it was the first era of factory 4x4 trucks from toyota. There were aftermarket 4x4 conversions prior to that but they were all different and they all sucked. 3rd Gen went from 89-95, the tacoma started mid year 95.

    I still haven't figured out why the years are split the way they are on this site either. 75 and prior groups 3 completely different body styles together and 76-83 puts 2 different body styles and 2 different suspension systems together. :shrug:

    Agreed. This has also bothered me but after years of being on the forum i got used to it. Lol
