gas tank cover???

    my gas tank cover is loose.everytime i drive it i have to push it back.it has a door lock on it too.can anybody tell me what's wrong so i can fix it???are toyota's prone to having this happen???it's a 1993 toyota 2wd standard cab too.any help would be great.

    try bending the tab inside so that it closes tighter when you lock it.

    If the cover sits too far in, check to see if the little rubber bump stops fell off. Mine were missing when I got my truck and after putting some in and bending the metal tab for the lock, it works like a champ... no rattling and the cover sits flush with the rest of the body:waytogo:

    i'll look at that how much are rubber tabs???are they very expensive????

    why don't you run a self tapping screw through a peice of bicycle tire. Or glue a chunk of rubber in there. I'm just saying it could be done for free.

    I picked up the rubber bump stops at a wrecking yard, they came off of a Suzuki Sidekick. I think they were like $1. Anything like that will work.

    i found the probblem.i'm missing the bottom screw that holds the lock down.has anybody else had this probblem???

    Bottom screw?

    Doesn't sound original. Our truck's come stock with the lock held in by a giant "C" clip. Are you talking about the hinge?:shrug:

    i think so and i didn't see a c lamp in there either.
