Ok this engine of mine runs beautifully. But I have it torn down since I'm building the truck from a custom frame up...my question is some of the valves in the head look great...some have a crusty buildup...not heavy...just a bit on the valve face..I don't think I need to put new ones in since the engine ran great and didn't smoke. But since it's torn down I'm putting new stem seals on at the least but if I did put new valves in would I need to lap them in? Or would I be good just cleaning these up and reusing them?

If you get new valves, at the very least You should atleast lap them in, being that the new valves will have a perfect surface the the seats will be worn to the valve that was in it. You can reuse the valves that were in it and relap them, but I'd suggest getting them reground.

Personally I'd get the seats and valves reground at a shop, just to be sure its perfect:waytogo: I use to work for an reman engine place and saw some terrible jerry rigged things..
