I was cruisin on the freeway today, ironically to get some parts of a dude on craigslist for the yota, and I noticed that it was starting to miss, especially bad when I would get on it. I made it to the guys house picked up my parts and as I left same thing. As soon as I got off the freeway, POP steam coming from the engine then it died. Radiator blew a hole and my intake sucked in the water, another fckin headgasket!! Well i'm pretty sure the headgasket is gone again. I'll tear into it tomorrow what really sucks now is that all my tools are at my house, i'm stayin with my parents right now, cuz my wife and I are getting a divorce, now i have to work on it without a garage or my tools!! Hey Rodney, time for that 1UZ swap, too bad your not in AZ!
atleast you only need a few tools for the job. that blows. atleast you made it back though. good luck with the fix.
That happened to me. Only I was 3 1/2 hrs from home. It took all day to hitch home. And I returned with a 4 runner and literally pushed my truck home with it. In the dead of night of course. My friend got to coaster the hills in it.
hell ill lend you a hand puting a new engine in there regardless on what it is. sucks about that and your divorce, divorces are ugly. Well send me a pm and ill do the best I can to help you out bud.
Thanks guys! just might take you up on that Rodney! haha i'll take some pics of the damage, hopefully there isn't much
Let me know man, glad to help. if you get a stock engine we could bust it out in a weekend no problem.
well good news! before i started tearing it down it fired up and ran decently good..didn't let it run for too long cuz i lost all my coolant, just wanted to see if it would start to give me a better idea if its the HG or not Once i get a compression tester i'll know for sure, but no water in the oil either, well at least nothing on the dipstick.. but....as there is defintley something going on at the throttle body. I noticed the two rubber hoses coming off of it were really wet, wet to the point it was leaking onto the TB.. Took the TB off and damn, lots of black crap in the intake manifold..how can i clean that out?!?!
I feel for you man. Mine blew up a few days ago. I already yanked it out and trying to get a 2rz running in it now Good luck with everything.
Seafoam/3 part cleaner for the running engine... otherwise the local auto store stocks carb/intake cleaner... since it looks like you've done most of the work to get the intake off may as well do the rest. also it looks like the pcv is working correctly ... just rings/seals getting old and letting pressure into the block and taking some oil with it.
Those two hoses are supposed to be wet... Water getting in behind the throttle plate is a different story... Looks like the cold air valve is shot!
those two hoses control the cold idle and all. they shouldn't be pushing coolant into the actual throttle. and the black gunk,.. carb cleaner stuff....
how can you tell about the cold air valve? It did have a crazy idle when it was cold, then it went away after it warmed up
Im sure you stay on top of this but I have to ask. Do you stay on top of regular maintanence? Once you get everything back together do a leakdown test. compression, doesnt seem to be your issue at this point and will only tell exactly what it does, compression. Build yourself a leak down tester for about 20 bucks and do that instead. this will let you know the following: Blown head gasket intake/exhaust valve leaks checks how well your seals are on the pistons and will let you know if you have blow by. and you can also do a wet compression test to verufy how well your cylinder are doing as well as piston ring life but make sure when you do this procedure that you do it properly or you will hydrolock the motor. ive seen it happen. But all in all, compression check wont hurt
I just watched the video and it didnt sound that bad dude. I think the problem is more minor then you think. you said a bunch of steam just came about right? You think you just blew off a hose?
When the engine is cold the CAV lets bypassed air in from the front of the throttle plate. As the coolant heats up the wax/spring loaded valve, it starts to close the bypass air passage. Your idle will then start to settle as it warms up. Looks like water is getting in somewhere within this system by the looks of the pic that shows the back of the throttle plate... The picture of the plenum with what looks like milkshake (water/oil mix) has also got me thinking it may be pulling in that stuff from the PCV valve. Do a quick check of what the underside of your oil filler cap looks like. If there is a slight sign of water in the oil it will be milky under the cap! If that's the case throw out the CAV as the culprit and prepare for another HG change... *Did it run hot before you trun it off?
