Alright so im looking to quiet down my exhaust and try to gain a lil more power on the top end. From the stock exhaust to the glasspack there was a definite improvement but from the beginning i noticed that there seems to be a lil more oomph in the lower RPMs. i dnt have a tach so i cant really say where i feel that the powerband peaks. I know different size pipe and muffler choice changes the overall feel of power. Im tryin to figure if i should remove the glasspack and throw in a turbo muffler, or keep the glasspack and add in a muffler behind it. i wana have the feel of a steady powerband and not just launch, peak, and crap out from about 3k to 5k. (wild guess) haha EDIT- keep in mind i have a Hardbody not a yota. figure exhaust basics should basicly be the same basic sh!t. lol
General: More back-pressure gives you torque and Less back-pressure gives you HP For N/A. If you're going turbo its a good idea to go with as little back pressure as possible. I have quite abit of friends with KA's. They usually go with the bigger piping. But its all personal preference!
A glasspack is probably the most freeflowing muffler you can use so id stick with that and get a longer and larger diameter glasspack and you'll probally get exactly what your lookin for
Thanks guys the motor is stayin stock, no mods besides the exhaust. What do u guys think about turbo mufflers? whats the opinion on those? from what ive read theyre just like a glasspack minus the flow through design. Correct?
SOHC KA24? my friend's with KA24DE's in their Silvias.. run..... 3" exhausts on 2400lbs cars... hahha
I'm not sure you will get the effect you are looking for just from exhaust. Exhaust can free up some power, and tuning it can help. But if the power isnt there...
oh i kno im not guna gain like 30HP from just the exhaust and a sticker lol. just swapping to the glasspack i felt the difference immediately, just figuring if the swapping mufflers or adding another would give me a different feel
No the stickers do ad like 10 horse each. I have like 15 under my bumper on my car, how else do you think I got 300+ hp? Lol. All kidding aside, I've felt more top end power with a small increase in size, and keeping the exhaust long. My truck I think I will be trying to fit in 2 straight through mufflers on 2" exhaust, and as much length as possible. On my car I opened up a lot of top end power but keeping stock exhaust size (2.5") from the cat back, but adding some straight through mufflers and a few semi tight bends.
from B pipe to 2" Lexus resonator 18" long ss (cat delete) into Tacoma 2..25" piping into Cherry Bomb turbo up over axle still w stock tacoma piping w/ stock driver side exit behind the rear wheel. Fires up with a bassy tone Muffler is super quiet if I'm not on it. Punch it and u can hear it. around the neighborhood it's great. SOund clips don't pick up the sound that's good for me.
Lol. My dam Thrush sticker bumped mine by 7hp. But its not enough!!!! I was thinkin about having the glasspack and then runnin 2.25" pipe up over the axle n another flow thru muffler after that n jus finish up with piping. A lil more backpressure but still free-flowing
I went 2.25 on my last truck, thought it was too big. And I had exhaust all the way to the tailgate. I will go 2" this time. I think it flows plenty for a 4 banger. My Audi has 2.5" for a twin turbo 6 and over 300 horse, and it flows plenty.
Well the size of the pipe is still up in the air considering idk how I wana redo the exhaust. I will say ive thought about doin a cut out incasr I wana wake up the neighbors.
