I got a 76 Chinook and after my last round of repairs have been advised by my mechanic to purchase an exhaust repair kit.

Me being naive and optimistic - my mechanic being gruff and straightforward…I figured an online search and that’s all I would need.

It appears there are many kits.

Any recommendations?

 

There are many aftermarket exhaust kits from later model Toyota pickups that should get you close enough fit-wise. They're all going to be very similar in terms of quality unless you spring for a more expensive stainless setup. Otherwise, you can also take it to pretty much any exhaust shop and have them make you an exhaust.

 

Skip the kit and get a custom exhaust put in. I have not heard many good things about the fit of kits, and a custom exhaust is pretty much price comparable if not cheaper. I brought in my own cat and muffler, and they charged 400$ to set everything up.

 

Go custom, you can taylor your sound and clearanes.

 

Find a good exhaust shop and have them build you something. I paid a pretty penny for mine but its so much better than any kit i could've pieced together
