i went to start the truck and was hard to start (22re) and when i got down the road it acted like it had no power and i pressed down on the gas and it picked up a little also the check engine light came on for a second and straghtened back out does any one know y it does this?
It might be the distributor being worn out. I don't know for sure but I have a similar problem with my 1988 4x4 22RE.
Start with the basics. Check Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, MAF sensor, Change fuel filter. Try that just to start. Was it wet or damp out that day?
Fuel pump and filter would be my starting point. especially if it was hard to start(unless it does it only in the wet like mine) you can test pressure with a guage.
mine is doing the exact same thing right now, i know its either fire or fuel so i started checking yesterday with the ignition system..my coil is a little out of spec from what the book says, but i'm going to check everything the next couple of days what code did you get, i got 12,21,43 does it lope really bad when you start it up and then smooth out?
well started it today and it ran fine i dont know whats wrong with it so im going to put new plug wires cap and rotor on it the one plug wire boot is cracked bad so im thinking that is part of the problem i dont know though
Oh yeah for sure! If ur plug book is cracked the spark will jump to the closest metal rather than where u want it!
so i did the jumper test and found out it was the coolant temp sensor put a new one in a haven't had any problems
