Hi all new to the forum but I need some help on what to do with all the factory stock emission control attached to the carb and the motor I have a 77 SR5 long bed 2.2 liter 20R moto. 1 can I remove it and still pass smog in San Diego. 2 If I can't what oem parts can I install to make it run better with out the stock stuff. 3 I seen a vid on youtube of a guy in So Cal that what looked like to me had it all completely removed. 4 Ive been told that smog does a manual visual inspection of the motor and if it's removed it automatically fails the smog test. any help with this from you real mechanics out there would be much appreciated, thank you for your time ALoha!

Sorry.... You have to leave it all there. You're in CA!

Only 1975 - older are smog exempt.

Unless you live in a rural county in CA (no biannual smog).

I don't know what you mean by "run better".

How does it run now? And have you tried smogging it yet?

No I am taking it in to the shop this week Tuesday, and what I meant by "run better" i guess that if I removed some of it or got some OEM parts to put into place with what is there to make it I dont know faster?? or something like that I am thinking that all that smog stuff has to impede on performance ?? oh well thanks for the reply Aloha

The parts that are there for smog are oem parts. And in Cali if you take them off and get pulled over and they want to check your car you can get a ticket and even have the car towed. And to be honest when I pulled all mine off I don't think there was much difference if any.

Or, you could move to Florida, we have no inspections at all....none. We also don't have state taxes, but it is buggy and humid.

Not me, I can take all my bull**** off! will the cat, which my 82 has the original it looks like, will that cause a stalling issue at idle? possibly? taking it off anyways to run a cleaner set up.
