Electric Fuel pump help

Hello Toyotaminis, I have ran into a slight issue and have not been able to find anything about it via search.
I have a 72 Hilux with a 20r running on a weber 32/36. Ever since I have completed the swap I have been running an electric (close to tank mount) fuel pump since my 20r has no inlet (plus for the weber as well).

Anyways, for temporary uses I have been using these cheap inline fuel pumps and they work great! Except for the fact that they burn out pretty quickly, therefore I have finally upgraded my fuel pump to with a more solid and permanent one, Holley Red 12-801-1. I swapped in the pump (know for a fact my lines are not swapped ex; inlet/outlet/to tank/ to engine) but now the pump will not suck up any fuel, just air.

All you hear is the fuel tank gurgling/bubbling, with no fuel being sucked up.
And you can hear air coming out from the line in the engine bay where the charcoal canister used to be.

-new fuel cap (thought it might be a sealing issue)
-I ran the pump with the hose connected to a water bottle with fuel to see if it works, and it sucked it up real good.
-Charcoal canister deleted, (ran fine without it with the past pumps)
-half tank of gas

With my last two cheapie pumps, I have never had this issue with it not priming, gas tank bubbling/gurgling, and the air coming from the charcoal canister line in the engine bay.

Sound like an issue anyone has had before and or has heard of?

I believe this is a gravity fed pump. The head has to be below the fuel tank. Try lowering the pump and see if this helps.
