I just bought a 20r stock 77 Hilux 2wd (198,000 original miles, and my first yota!) it has points in the dizzy. I would like to replace them with a more modern ignition. I don't have a lot of cash so I want to go the easiest route possible for my slim wallet.

Is there a newer dizzy/ignitor I can directly replace it with, from say a newer yota from a JY? Or is there a cheaper way to do it? Magnetic points, etc. any help would be greatly appreciated. (replaced the points already but I wanna upgrade).

Its also running very rough after it warms up sounds like its misfiring or something. Can't pinpoint a vacuum leak but I'm sure there is one, any common places to look? (carb gasket, intake manifold gasket, vacuum lines)?

Maybe the stock carb needs to be rebuilt/replaced? It was sitting for a few years when I bought it. I'm a newbie to yotas and this forum but not to minis (also got a '92 Mazda B2200) Suggestions for this little yota? I'll post some pics when I get a chance. I got it because the body was in good shape.

    Thanks!

You can upgrade to a newer model r series dizzy and coil igniter all the r series dizzy housings are the same .. Threw the years . There's a guy that just swapped using a Petronix kit and a a gm hei ignition module il se if. Can find the it buy far one of the cheaper upgrades as oppose to purchasing the Toyota ignition module and or finding replacements

Not a prob .hollar if you have any questions some of those pics are showing several ways to wire a hei module . It's a good cheap upgrade if you don't decide to use the Toyota coil and igniter .also Petronix seals a conversion kit that allows you to use your stock old skewl dizzy and enables the use of newer igniter and coil or hei modules ..that's what that guy did
