So i went to the scrap yard and found a 85 toyota, pulled off the front disk brakes with spindle, brake lines, calipers..

I got home and pulled off the drum brake on the passenger side, and took the 85 driver side and set it up next to the one i pulled off.

So this is my set up, it was 2 ball joints, one upper and one lower, the disk brake set up that came off the 85 has 1 upper ball joint, and then it has a bracket that connected to the lower A arm, that has a ball joint on it.

was i supposed to take the lower A arm off the 85? it doesnt look like it would even come close to fitting is why i left it.

If im just missing something, someone throw me a bone lol, starred at this thing for like a hour in silence :brickknock:... i dont know what to do, pull the lower ball join and drill holes for the bracket for my new set up?

i think you read what dillinja666 posted wrong. the 79-83 yota has the same balljoint orientation with them both pointing down to the ground. 84-95 have one pointing up and one pointing down like the 85 that you bought.

you can grap the spindle/knuckle, rotors and calipers from a 75-78 hilux and it bolts onto your original balljoint. it looks like the 85 could work flipped, but it would take some welding and grinding to make the 85 lower balljoint fit the 74 arm.

if you do get a 79-83 spindle make sure the balljoint taper is correct. if it doesn't fit right in the spindle it will end up snapping. it's scary when it happens at 75mph (had it happen in my 1 ton chevy lol)

Just went back today and exchanged the 85 for the 80, they fit perfectly, disc brake conversion down.
Are disc brakes in the rear worth looking into? i guess i just dont know...are disc brakes better then drum? are they just a little better? a lot better?
