I was wondering if anyone knows how the rev limiter on the Crane ignitions (such as what LCEngineering sells) works. Does it cut out the spark or does it cut out the fuel when it reaches the rev limit?
If the limiter is in the ignition, it's going to cut spark. Only a limiter that's in the ECU can cut fuel.
It cuts the spark but does it in such a way as not to allow the cylinders to load up with raw fuel. I run the Crane unit with Nitrous and it really works great. I have tried others but the Crane has been the best so far.
reminds me of the Bee*R rev limiter system built by some Japanese shop. cuts ignition, but every other shot so its still a limiter.
I looked at the Bee*R ignition cut rev limiter. They claim it shoots flames right on the website. I would have to order it out of Japan. It would be awesome to put that on. Only thing is they don't make one for a Toyota pickup engine. They make one for the AE86 Corolla and the Supra and such. 3S-GTE 7mgte etc. I wonder if I could use one from another vehicle and get a good mechanic to install it. But what sports car should I 'swap' it from? I was thinking a 2.4L Nissan 240 engine would be better than a 2.0L Toy engine. What do you guys think?
i wonder if you could adapt one from the Toyota 4cylinder 4AGE or 3SG(T)E. something i would be a lil iffy about, but if you have the stock 22RE, you really really don't need to worry about the rev limiter... (mine works perfectly fine... been there at least 300+ times, even more lol) 22R, its carbed... so probably needs to be done with an ignition type limiter. Planemos, the Bee*R rev limiter shoots flames on a straight through exhaust because the ignition cuts, but the fuel being injected into the cylinder passes through (un combusted) and gets detonated in the exhaust (provided that the motor is already running warm). I too have thought about this, but if the Bee*R is purely ignition and a few things, it MAY possibly be adapted to the relatively simple 22RE. Probably wiring.. hope someone jumps in here with better suggestions or so.
Do you want a rev limiter or do you just want to make your truck shoot flames? You aren't going to get a 22re to shoot flames like the Skyline in the picture of the Bee R instructions; the turbocharged car produces much more heat and dumps way more fuel into the engine. The Bee R unit also costs about $100 more than the whole Crane CDI unit, and it's only a rev limiter, not an ignition amplifier like the Crane. It's probably a lot harder to get one as well. A MSD 6AL is another slightly cheaper alternative to the Crane unit.
Mainly I want a rev limiter because I believe the stock 22RE does not have a rev limiter. So I am always watching the rpms so as not to go over a certain amount. Am I wrong? Is there a limiter already? And thanks that Bee*R just caught my eye. You're probably right not worth it for stock 2.4L.
the stock cam stops pullin right about 5200 if i remember right. anything over that is a waste. stopped revvin the **** out of that stock motor before you blow it.
