So I know most CAI will pull hot air from the engine compartment while factory boxes will actually draw in cold air. But I was thinking of doing the battery/intake swap then cutting the filter into the fender like ford did on my f150. I know that area is very small but I have access to tools to modify the area to make it work. It is also enclosed from most water spray so that shouldn't be a problem. Only problem I see is how hard it would be to change the filter. Has anybody tried this or have any thoughts or comments on it?
I did this ,draw cold air from two feeds from outside the engine bay. Drilled a 5'' hole at the side for a feed from the wheel well, & a 3'' hole at the bottom, feeds from behind the front bumper. I use a reverse cone K&N filter & made a box with removable top from aluminum.
The air filter front, the tapered end ,sticks out of the hole a few inches & I have a slash guard on the rear ward sidefor water off the tire. I'll get a photo of that!
That engine is clean. But that is just what I was thinking. Did you notice any more throttle response/gas mileage. Also do you pass smog?
Thanks, & yes it goes though smog test with no problems. This is no a stock engine ,it's a LC stage 1 Pro Street EFI ! Lots of power & gas mileage is 26-28 with driving 70 & above,if I cruise @ 65 she'll get 31.
