Is there a step by step tutorial on replacing a clutch (removal of trans ) on a 84-88 22R engine somewhere online ? In the planning process to pull mine apart over the winter. Looking for tips and lessons learned to make job easier. Thanks, 22R88
Pull the driveline, put a jack under the trans. Remove everything attached to the trans. Starter, slave cylinder, shifter, speedometer cable etc and the exhaust is either removed or at least loosened up drop the jack. Now you can get to the 2 top bellhousing bolts with about 3' of extension. Those bolts are the toughest part of the job. Once all the bolts are removed you can slide the trans back and rotate it and it should drop out with some prying, cussing and frustration. Everything else is straight forward.
Thanks for the reply. What about loosening the motor mounts ?? Thought I read that somewhere ?? Is that something I should do or don't worry about it ? Thanks again, 22R88
There is usually enough give in the mounts but if it fights you just loosening the single stud from the top will suffice.
