I am cutting up my clutch on my 1992 22RE 2wd truck. Because I am tubbing it and airbagging. And I was wondering what does the button/sensor do on the clutch pedal? It has an electrical plug and when the clutch is pushed all the way in this button gets pushed down. What is the purpose of this piece? And can I delete it?

Does it just make the engine idle a bit higher than if it was in neutral gear?

Its the nuetral safety switch. You can by pass it, but then it can start while in gear.
