I'll have to double check if they'll fit your years, but yes, handles are metal. I know they will fit 72.5 to 78...

Test Fit

I may just hit the yards tomorrow and test fit one on a couple of different years.

 

If I remember correctly the chrome metal inside handles were used in 75 and possibly earlier and required a larger trim cover than the plastic colored pulls used.

 

We should def. get some info on this swap!

 

The chrome one and black trim cover are from a 75, the blue set are from a 76 and newer truck, still a easy swap though.
