Hello everyone... big second post!

I have a 71 Hilux that I am trying to get to lay out. I'm using hydraulics instead of air bags, but the theroy is the same.

While trying to get the maximum amount of travel with the front, I have found that the ball joint on the lower control arm is binding up very early compared to where I need to be.

Many folks say that I should flip them, but with the taper in the ball joint, i'm not sure if this is a good plan.

Any insight would be super helpful.

Here is a quick pic of my truck.

    Thanks!

Here it is, i've cut two turns off the coils, but what you mentioned in the other thread is not true for my truck.

The lower ball joint is binding up with about 2" to go before it lays. If you notice, i've had to remove some of the crossmember to get it to this point and more will have to come off. Once I get it down i'll re-enforce all the metal etc.

maybe using slightly newer control arms or spindel would do the trick.

the pieces look pretty much the same, cept some different legnths.

cut the lowers and reweld where the lower balljoint is at the end of its travel as it sits on the ground. then you have all the travel you need.

you might want to take the lowrider approach and extend the a-arms..are you going to hop it? my friend had a 68 impala that he hopped all the time..lets say he got real good at changing ball joints on the street

tubular control arms with screw in balljoints would probably help ya. or is somebody would break down and make a drop spindle for the hilux.

    Quick update...

First I want to thank Seth at www.twistedminis.com for all the guidance... what would we do without the internet?!?

So, here is basicly what I got done yesterday (bout 5 hours worth of work)
Its nowhere near done, I need about one more inch I think for it to lay, so everything is tacked (or heavily tacked..) and then I have to do the other side. I've been sick today... sucks...

Not teasing, i've been working on it every night trying to get it done for a show this weekend.

Last night I set it down without a cylinder or spring... the front is 3/4" away from laying. Also the Passenger side has not been touched other than cutting a coil, so the truck is leaning.
