ok im tryin to bag my 94 x-cab, i would love to get control arms and all to bag the front, but money is a big issue, bein as my wife is pregnant, so i was wonderin if anyone has bagged their 89-95 at the torsion bars and if so, do u have any pictures? thanks for any help
Lot's of people bag using stock control arms. But also I think the torsion bars usually get tossed. And triangulating the lowers is used.
if your thinking about attaching the bag at the end of the torsion bar it won't work well, if at all. the amount of leverage is crazy high, and you'd need a super high amount of pressure just to raise it at all. i did see a truck at bring the noize in like 2008 that used hydraulics to twist the torsions. the hydraulic pressure can easily move the torsions, and since it's solid, the torsion functions like factory. but remember you can't simply weld a bracket to the torsions. you'd probably need to get some stuff machined to work correctly. i think bagging it with the stock arms will be way easier for you.
if i recall correctly it was this truck http://www.streetsource.com/issues2/viewPhoto.aspx?Type=Show+Coverage&Photo=/uploads/membercoverage/47/crochface__912200855159AM9449.jpg&Thumbnail=/uploads/membercoverage/47/crochface__912200855159AM9449_tn.jpg
It's just basicallyremoving the torsions. An then a circle plate welded to the lower control arms I'll try an find a pic
Dude I'll get some pics posted later this afternoon on how mine is done. Im gonna redo it once I buy my Can Do control arms but my set up works great at the moment it just cambers in the wheels a ton when laid out. But it gets hella lift. tossed the torsions. yah check back about 8pm your time I should have them up gotta wait for the old lady to get home she has the camera
Very interested to see some pics. my truck is bouncy as hell. i need some shock absorbsion. Where do you guys have them mounted?
get better shock absorbers then! even bags need shocks or they'll bounce just as long as steel springs. I have fronts for a chevy 1500 for the extra valving for a 4500lb truck. slightly smaller but it still hits the bump stops before maxing the shocks either direction and only mod needed was dremeling out the lower holes 1/32" wider spacing.
This is how the previous owner did the shocks on mine, weird looking setup, but it worked for 5 years so far. Im redoing it of course when I z and body drop mine here next month. This is the only pic I have right now, after I finished rebuilding the motor...
