I need your VIN# for parts look up. It has to come with a 4 speed manual trans or a single wheel rear 1 ton truck. These trucks had the 8" 4WD third members and 30 spline axles and were 5 lug.

    Thanks, James

The 4 speed 2wd 8" third member is not the same as a 4wd's. The 2wd came with 307 gears so the carrier housing had to be offset because of the massive pinion size. If you plan on changing to a 4 speed 5 lug and plan on changing the ratio to standard or lower ratioes you will need a 4wd carrier housing because the ring gear wont fit.:waytogo:

I'm not following you. Do you mean that the axle shafts would be two different lengths?

No. What I'm trying to do is use the 2wd 8" rear housing and axles and use the 4wd third members for different gear ratios since they are stronger than the 27 spline 7.5" rears that we have in our 2wd Toyotas.

    :D Thats what I ment. I got a 8in 5 Lug dually rear with a 4cyl 4wd Diff in it.

Its really tough lookin. The axle shafts have the girth! I still need a Lsd/locker.

I think EVOL ment that you cant put 4wd R&P gears into a 8in 3.07 pumkin. But who would want to do that. Just get another diff outa a 4wd.

The dually axle is a full floater and is totally different. This is why I'm looking for a VIN# so I can go to my local Toyota dealer and see what parts are different and what parts are the same.

I know about the diffs but another member here says the 8" housings for the 2wd will not accept 4wd 8" diffs because there is not enough depth on the 2wd 8" housings or something like that.

    Thanks, James
