Looking for a good machine shop to bore/deck/etc. My 84' 22r block. I live in san diego.my engine has 278,000 miles....need to do a head gasket change, but would just overhaul the motor while at it.in need of a rebuild and need to do it the right way. My budget is around $200 for the machine shop.i think im gonna buy "enginebuilder"s rebuild kit,and port the heads.i dont know about oversize valves and mild cam ,cause the dome pistons worry me. Got a 5 speed celica trans that i cant wait to put in,found a new clutch, just need a lightened flywheel, but they are expensive.any help would be great guys.
i used floyd's machine shop in san diego. he is off of el cajon blv. right across from where perry ford used to be. actually he is right across from the high school there. i got my block done there with everything ready to assemble for just over 200 bucks. guy was real cool..... (forgot his name) but reasonable price. i think for another 50 bucks or somethin he will assemble the whole bottom end for you..... dont quote me on that. anyhow... his usual turn around is a couple days unless he is backed up on work. as for the flywheel, i personally chose LCE's 9lb. one of the greater mod's i did to my 86 22R when i rebuilt it. made it super responsive and never really noticed much loss in torque.... just dont expect to let the clutch out and idle away. as for advice on the pistons and valve clearances, id wait for a couple more knowledgeable guys answer those questions..... im not too sure myself on what will work with the domed pistons. i did a quick search on the shop, here is some contact info. 4603 El Cajon Boulevard San Diego, CA 92115-4402 - (619) 284-7333
