so a few days ago, my amp started to shut off and then come back on after 5 min or so or if i shut key off then back on. i thought it was the thermal protection but its no where close to being warm. i turned down the gain on amp a tad and the bass on the h.u. itself. it dont really matter how loud it is to cause this. my mids and highs stay on, just sub quits. i dont need any replys saying to check grounds, connections, power wires, fuses, etc. thats all good. thought it was due to voltage drop, but that checked out ok. just dont know what else to check or do. want to cover all my bases before going out and buying a new amp. could it be some internal issue with amp, like capacitor or resistor or something that i can replace and solder back in? could it be the output on head unit causing this?:brickknock:

I gots no truck, for now
doubt its the output on the head, id be willing to bet ya smoked the amp if all your connections and voltages are good like you say.

well i figured it out i think. well its staying on now anyway. i had the speaker box sitting on the wires and it kinked them. didnt think that was possible but i guess its like kinking a garden hose and cutting off the water. so i cut the slack out of wires and seems to be good. i had some skrillex in and was blasting it louder than i would normally listen to it and didnt shut off after 20 min. voltage did go from 14.84 down to 13.90 when the big bass hit, but considering how loud it was, i think thats ok!

you can't kink it and cut off the flow of electricity like you can water in the garden hose. BUT if you kink it and makes a thin spot on the wire (like folding and creasing a paper creates a weak line) or break the wire and the ends are still touching it'll create a bottleneck that can overheat and open or just create a bad connection.

i was just using the garden hose as an example. i know it cant stop the flow of voltage. but i knew if the wire gets smashed enough, it wiil effect it.
and when i posted that bout checking the wires, i was actually talking bout the power, ground and remote. i would have never thought to check speaker wires. i was thinking back to what i could have done to cause the issue with amp and the only thing i could think of was i had to get jack out and the sub box slide forward with the seat so when i moved it back, i unknowingly sat it on the wires. wires are shorter and went on 5 hr road trip today and all is good now.
