As the days go on the auto trans in my truck more and more tired. I'm not having any luck finding a replacement that's in my budget (which isn't much for my poor little truck).

So i just found out a friend of mine has a 83-88 2wd, standard trans, non-running that he may trade me for an old vw pan buggy i've got. I still have to find out exactly what year, and if it's a 4 or a 5 speed.

From what I've read the trans will work as should the clutch flywheel and all that good stuff. My question is will the trans mounts and the cross member deal? I'm not sure if they changed the design on that stuff from 4th to 5th generation.
I know I'll need a 5th gen pedal cluster, and will have to get a longer drive shaft made (my truck is an extra cab).

what else transmission wize wouldn't convert from the one truck to the other?

I'm hoping this truck can be an answer for my transmission delema. It would be really cool because that would leave me with a 22r longblock to use/ rebuild.

Well my friends into the trade. What I know so far is that it's a 84 (possibly an 85 depending on month manufactured). It's a 5 speed. It has a 22r that isn't locked up. And The truck has 160k on the odometer.
He couldn't get any better pics of the door jam plate (crappy phone).

I think it should provide me with most of what I need plus an extra engine and rear end.
