I've found value in these forums and it's time for me to get on this one. Just completed a suspension repair on my '95 after the wife shared she "hit a bump". Knocked the torsion bar out of the vehicle! Finding the specs for that brought me here but most discussions on suspensions were mods, not return to stock. So, I went to an alignment shop and got the ride height measurements. They were a lot more helpful than Toyota. During the repair, I discovered it was likely failing as the broken bolt and torsion bar arm had odd damage to it. Got new hardware, set to factory specs, and it no longer bottoms out like it used to. Progress.... I'm good with electrical repair so ask away if something is awry in your truck.
Welcome to TM. Good thing abot torsion bars is if you lower it using that method you can always put it back to stock by just reversing what was done.
Jetas, I've lived with inside tire wear due to what may have been a partially collapsed suspension. The odd damage I spoke about was a thread gash two threads above where the bolt broke. Then, the whole end of the torsion bar adjustment arm was "beat up" as if it was somehow jammed up in the area it sits. I couldn't prove it...as it didn't make sense. When I inspected the damage, the bar was hanging by the spline. However, I took it back to factory specs and it rides perfectly. No more bottoming out. Vehicle is level in two directions. Something was wrong but I'm not sure what because I never took the time to dig into it before it broke. Lowering by this method increases the chance of bottoming out again. It also slightly changes camber. That takes me back to tire wear and I'm tired of that. Call me a purist but factory specs is a lot easier. Works for me, not for everyone I suppose. Thank you for the welcomes. Much appreciated.
Nice! I can appreciate a nice 442 Too bad all the companies don't support my B-body like they do for yours. Luckily I have a 2nd 68 Delmont parts car.
