People (including me) have been using air shocks on the back on mini-trucks since the 80's bro. Ive got the on the back on my Toyota now & will continue to use them until I bag the rear.

ive considered doing this for my 78 too. i have a 4 link i can put in, but dont wanna cut the bed. id use a coil, with air shocks too. not just solo. same up front, if i z it and put a drop spindle im on the ground. thats how low it sits. i thought about using an air shock in the stock spot to basically get me back up ~3" to where im at now to get into parking lots and stuff.

but, if they run more than about 75 a shock i could just get some slam bags. its a good thought though. prices would be cool.

just a tad of info for anybody who has the same mentality as me. which is basically, it only needs to be high enough to scrape over speed bumps a little. lol. for my truck, if i do bag it, it will be with a small bag. like an RE-5 slam specialties bag up front. some people say thats too small, but the way i look at it, for a given amount of lift, i will be higher into the PSI of the bag, which equates to a stiffer ride. i dont care if it gets lift to stock height. i just need it to come up a few inches to be about where im at now, so when im rolling low i dont have a squashy ride. i know that is a different thought process than some people have, but im tucking a few inches of tire, and have full steering. so there isnt reason to go higher.

like ive mentioned before on the site, mine only needs a frame z of about 1-1/2" and a 2" drop spindle, and ill have the frame on the ground. so, camber will be right where im at, and tires dont wear too bad. coming up a couple inches will straighten it out and make it better. out back is pretty normal. id probably run an RE-6, most likely hanging off the front of the axle, using the brackets usually used for behind. little more lift, but that way if i load it down i can compensate.

    hopefully thats helpful to somebody.

I'm running a set of air shocks on my truck and I think they're pretty cool. Got them from Autozone. They come in a pair and include the hose kit. I can post the part number tomorrow.

Monroe 727's seem to be what people are using. I heard of some that are a bit smaller and better for lowered trucks, but I personally have installed a couple sets of the 727's on trucks that were 7" drop in back. The install is a breeze, and they do help with loads and slight lift...mainly to keep the truck from bottoming when hauling medium weight stuff. You can find them at pep-boys too....I wanna say like $75 or so for the pair....? I know SD YOTA is running some on his truck.

I bought my Gabriel High Jacker air shocks off Ebay cause I wanted the shortest when compressed set I could find. I wanted my truck to bottom out in the c-notch so I took a few measurements & started looking. I emailed a seller on Ebay, told him what I was looking for & the part # he recommended was 39507. Now like I was saying earlier...I just wanted something to let my truck sit as low as possible, but get enough lift to get me around so this shock works great for me. They do however make a bigger shock that gets more lift. At one time you could buy these from Auto Zone or Advance Auto, but Im not 100% sure if they still carry them?!

Not the best pic, but you can see what the shock does & what kind of lift I get with it. Oh & dont forget that youll need a air hose kit with these shocks too!!

Thanks bro...just to let you guys know cause Im sure someone will ask. The nothch on my truck is a universal weld on from Alter Images or what you know
now as CanDo Specialties. Its a 2.25 inch notch & most sites sell them as a bolt on, but I think its better/safer to weld it in. As for the spikes on the rear axle...those are called "pike nuts" & can be found at most motorcycle shops or on Ebay. They come in all lengths & thread patterns, but be warn they are "not" cheap!!

What is under your spring hanger by the muffler? Looks like a stock jack but I'm not sure. I was just gonna retap some hot topic studs. I have a few good sized ones. And some black acorn 1/4"ish nuts from inside xboxs. LOL.

Its a factory jack, but its just sitting there. I was using it to jack up the frame when I was taking some measurements, but let it down so people could get an idea on how my air shocks worked.

Hey man... you make a good point... but i think if any thing the shocks will work better than what i have now.... plus my axle wrap is allready horrible. I have been driving it really tame lately.. havent had it to the floor in a long time.

    Kinda depressing! :runaway:
