hi i have a toyota pick up with the 22re motor only 122k miles on it. motor sounds normal except when i shift from P to D or from P to R, thats when it starts to hesitate when you are taking off. i have changed the fuel pump, throttle position sensor, fuel filter, spark plugs, i cleaned the throttle body, and im thinking in replacing the timing chain if thats the problem. sorry for the spelling

Sounds more like a trasmission or torque converter issue. Do those have lockup converters?

sounds like its a trans issue. does it "surge" foreward when taking off?

Mine was doing the same thing. Found my distributor was way out of wack.
Got it timed and fixed everything.
