So I just bought my truck and it for some reason will not shift in to OD. Had the tranny serviced with all the goodies and still no OD. However, I did read in the owners manual that if the truck doesn't get I a certain temp it will stay in "cold start mode" or something like that..... The truck doesn't run cold. Could it be a simple OE thermostat swap and then I'm good to go it is there something else I could check? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks
Check overdrive solenoid and relay I also believe another member used a Volvo solenoid cause its cheaper may try searching for auto trans prob I think it Was a pretty recent post were he was having a similar issue http://www.toyotaminis.com/forum/build-up-project-threads-21/punish-86-yot-14163/index7.html starts about page seven There is an OD solenoid on the drivers side of the transmission. It will be the only bolt on thing with wires going to it, just above the pan, located about mid section of the trannies body. Unbolt it .take it out then take off the o-ring that's on the end of it. Bolt it back up and go for a test drive.
Hey guys! In that link above it talks about a Volvo overdrive solenoid being used on our Toyota pickups..... Does anybody know which model and year Volvo? I wrote the guy that posted about it but not reply yet. Thanks!
Not clear on the year but I'm pretty sure it's going to be an old model Volvo proably up to 1995 I'd start looking for the old box Volvo's or any old Volvo wagon . In your junkyards might even take your solenoid up to a Volvo repair shop a long time Volvo mechanic will proably recognize it
Did you ever get this sorted out? Just bought an ‘82 with the automatic overdrive and mine also doesn’t shift into OD
