just to let you no the beds are the same for 2wd and 4wd the only difference is jap style or american style.
actually there not .. 2wd beds have a smaller wheel opening .. because of the factory wheel size . 14" for 2WD and 15" for the 4WD . 4WD beds are also flared more then the 2WD , and the fuel filler doors are NOT interchangeable. anyway .. I build em' if your interested .. do lots of custom work as well . there not "CHEEP" though .. http://www.toyotafiberglass.com check us out .
like slacker said said they are different. they started putting the 4x4 beds on all models in 89 i think. but the older toys have different beds. Slacker, I have checked out your site and it looks like you guys do good work! how much do you guys charge for a complete bed?
hey guys thats some great info, but I'm a little confused I have the build sheet in front of me for the fleet side american bed with all parts# and the only difference I see here is long or short length bed sides and I talked to some of the guys I work with here and they all say the only difference is long or short fleet side or jap bed. not trying to be a pain just looking for facts I guess,
I think we may be getting into a difference of availablity due to location Slacker is in Canada and some trucks were imported there that were not brought into the USA Speaking for the 84-88 USA imported trucks... The 2wd came with a bed that has a "lip" on it and had smaller mostly flatter wheel openings that match the 2wd style fenders... this is also referred to as the jap spec bed. BUT you could get a 2wd with the "american" spec 4wd style bed... No lip and flared/bulged fenders that match the 4wd front fender... Now I know a lot of other countries had a bed that was basically a 2wd bed with the "lip" but had the bulged fender like a american 4wd bed.... both were available in short or long bed in 89 (USA only)the bed went to one style "4wd" with a long or short bed version... other countries have all sorts of variations of the 89 bed... one with the lip and ones that are really short for double cab trucks.... as examples Heck the Aussies have it made with double cabs diesels and straight axles from before 89 up to today... I think Iceland is another place they are available I would like to hear any other viewpoints on this subject or corrections to mine
Actually ... that is incorrect .. mostly right .. but .. although I am in Canada.. USA is kinda singled out . Due to import laws in the US .. the fleetside bed was built to get around them .. The USA is the only place in the world that has the "Fleetside" bed in the 84-88 years . every other place in the world had the "lip" on the top rail . The top rails are the same size .. so only "ethesitics" are into play only beds are the same size dimentially . It's only in later years , and "special" places , Toyota came out with different bed designs you need to email me please .. [email protected]
