    i have a '94 lux with a 2.4L 22R, and my mate offered me an '84 22RE cheap.
My current engine has been run on LPG for some time, and seems to be tiring.
If I rebuilt the '84 22RE, would it go harder/faster/ more power than my current engine?
'84 also has extractors on it, im hoping he will let me buy them too.
The '84 isnt complete, missing some pulleys, but if was to rebuild it Id use some parts off my current engine.
Reason I want to rebuild it is so i learn more, and have a nice clean engine in the bay.
What do i have to do to improve the '84? Go new pistons rings valves? Check gaskets? How about the efi? Anyway of pulling more power?
I want this engine if its going to be quicker than my current engine, cos itll also be a simple drop in, apart from efi wiring.
heres some pics, tell me all you know about the 22RE, I WANT TO KNOW IF ITS WORTH IT. :p

Well, you could wikipidea the 22R engines. There is quite a bit of basic info there. I personally like the 22RE. Things may be differnt here, but in 84 the Toyota truck had the 22R and the Celica-Supra had the 22RE. The Celica-Supra engine has a better AFM intake setup, which allows better airflow. Many people upgrade the truck with that AFM.
I have a friend that swears by the 22R though. He has had it forever and his truck has about 800 000 kms or something. Easier to work on I think.

I gots no truck, for now
love my 22r...i run a weber so its super easy to tune. i have an electric fuel pump so i dont have to worry about the mechanical one going out. you can mod the engine and not have to deal with the stock computer too which freaks out if you do to much.

    Well, so you know....

There are tall deck (non laser) and short deck (laser) 22R/E blocks in 84. Quick way to tell is the oil return pad on the drivers side of the block.

Its important to know before you start swapping parts off of your LPG engine. It -could- be the tall deck setup on the 84 motor, but extreamly unlikely. Timing components, timing cover, cyl head, exhaust could all be different.

As for mo power, do a search. Theres lots of good info out there already. Everything easy like bumping the timing, header, exhaust system, airbox swap, Throttle body off of a 5M (I think?).

    A little more difficult...Cam, light flywheel, re-gear.

And then inside the motor (like have to pull the head), Port and polish, bigger valves, Mill it for compression (get an LC timing sprocket).

    Like I said, reserch. :waytogo:

And you didnt put a price on your buddies engine...:verdict_in:

    $200 aud? I dont mind.
I like the look of the 22re as opposed to plain 22r. The efi looks neater, carby looks more messy.
If i can build a good engine from two engines, im happy.
Id strip the efi engine down, clean it, new parts, chrome n ****...

ive had a look at the engine, seems to be missing some pulleys. Thats aight, i can get them from local pick n pull, they have some 84 celicas there. Or id buy brand new alternators n ****. I wanna clean the engine bay up, hide some wiring so on. New radiator etc. My current engine is dual fuel, can run on unleaded or lpg. The lpg pump and lines are messy.
At trade school today. So effing boring. I might leave and do body work on lux at home. Haha see ya!
