any swap is possible, but i'd recommend staying away from a straight 6. my 1uz v-8 barely fit in the engine bay, and that was moving the radiator forward about 3", and i'm not sure it would be possible to move it that far forward with a stock grille/core support.

you'd also have to get creative with intercooler placing unless you don't mind it hanging out in the front lol. the biggest headache of these year trucks is the frame is pretty narrow, it's a rear steer setup, and the suspension cross memeber is pretty bulky.

    Here's an 83 4x4 with a 7mgte in it.

I happen to have a 83 2wd that I'm putting a 7MGTE in. I know you can use the motor mount bushings off of a 22R and the steel mounts off a 5M to mount the 7M into the torsion bar frames, but I don't know what you'd do for the 78 and older frames that have the coiled springs. I guess you'd have to fabricate some mounts.
As for the transmission, if you have a 7MGTE you basically have to use the R154 transmission that comes with all the turbos. You can use a non turbo transmission (which is very similar to a pickup's) but you're running the risk of blowing the thing up just with factory HP let alone any extra HP you might add.

Good luck and keep us updated if you decide to do the swap.
