Still looking for restoration options on a 1971 Hilux front vent window (wing window) rubber. Does anyone know if the rubber from a 76-83 will fit, even with some minor trimming?

As a side note I am also looking at Land Cruiser FJ 55 rubber but its probably no dice... If the 76-83 fits, I'll do a build up thread of the restoration and what parts can be substituted.

Geeze! Parts are hard to find on this thing! :brickknock:

First of all, the vent window weatherstrip for the '79-'83 trucks are still available through Toyota.
(LH: 68182-89104 / RH: 68181-89104). I imagine that the door didn't change drastically, so you will need to modify them to fit. If it were me, I'd give it a try.

Let us know what you decide!

This offer still stands, I have no use for them anymore and would like to see someone use them instead of just sitting in the garage collecting dust.

I just called our local dealer parts dept and he said they sell for $22.72 each, so you'll save a few bucks anyway for the same product, these were on the truck but it never left the garage, did my one piece window swap a few weeks later.

Send me a PM if interested, I have sold a few things here before you can make a post and check me out, I am sure you'll get positive answers back, always went really smooth

My mistake, I did drive the truck with them on as stated, about 15 miles, dry conditions.

    Hey Pete,
Your link that you posted advertises the side window weatherstrips (aka door belts). He's looking for the weatherstrips for the vent windows.:)

I see now what you mean, I don't know why I thought it was the side door belts. Thanks Rick.

Ignore my offer, I don't have those. I had stock side and wing windows and the rubber was part of the wing window, but those are long gone.

I would call your local dealer/parts dept and use the part # Rick posted and even ask them if the computerized pic on their screen looks like the same part and would it fit. I would'nt think it would be that much $ and you would have 2 brand new pieces.

    Good luck with this

I tried it... The 76-83 vent window rubber will not/not fit on a 68-71 Hilux. It misses the top section (apex) of the triangle by about 1/8 of an inch e.g. the 76-83 has a shorter (vertical length) wing window. Sorry for the trigonometry references... After studying (pun intended) it for a while, a small portion of the old gasket could be cut out to lengthen the left and right legs as well as the hypotenuses and sealed with black silicone.

The problem is the gaskets on the truck are too dry and you have to be very precise with the cuts so as to not destroy a $40 set of gaskets. All I need is a not so dry set of donor gaskets to make it work. The saga continues...
