A near pristine 1974 Hilux was just brought into the local junk yard. By the time I got there yesterday, the differential was already pulled. ( Why is it ALWAYS the differential is pulled first on old Toyota trucks???? ) It's sad to have this Hilux junked. It was brought in as a tow off the streets. It wasn't a wreck or rusting yard art. The weren't any dent or indications of any crashes. The body is straight and clean. Even both passenger and drive front fenders are dentless! The engine is also clean. No oil or crud build-up. Original starter! I found a repair order in the glove box, and the owner recently replaced the fuel pump and distributor. Even the original 18RC label on the valve cover was intact without any bubbling or tears. It's sad that this ended up there and will be smahed for slag metal. I got the Hilux emblem, and that's it. Any other pulls before it goes?
Take the fenders, grille, valance, emblems, gauge cluster, radio bezel, wire harness. Tail light lenses.
don't forget the tailgate and hood, plus headlight assemblies. all that is worth some $$$ If the steering wheel is in good condition, that's worth snagging. Vents might be worth popping out.
Been a bit wonky in the head. Good friend died Wednesday night. ( Yes, life can change in a twinkling of an eye....) Went to the junkyard again today. Most of the stuff has been pick from the truck. Fenders, tailgate, rear lights, slave cylinder: gone. One part of the two-part , front bumper, and a smashed valance there. Interestingly, so is interior panels, seat, and windows. Dash board hacked apart. No one wants the 18RC engine. Or the 5 speed transmission.
